TUCSON - Country music's Jerrod Niemann stopped in Tucson Sunday night, one of 200 cities he'll play this year.
News 4 Tucson's Rebecca Taylor caught up with Jerrod before the show at Toby Keith's I Love This Bar.
Jerrod is as down to earth as it gets, instantly his personality shines. When asked about staying fit on the road he says, "We have a video coming up, so pretty much for the next 10 days I'll be starving."
Besides obvious charm, Jerrod's had two songs hit the top of the charts. 'Lover Lover' hit number one, and 'What Do You Want' cracked top five.
As for his image, just because Jerrod doesn't wear a cowboy hat doesn't mean he's not country.
"For instance, we have two horn players on the road with us," says Jerrod, "And really for me, I actually went to college for country music in Texas."
"Today you listen to the radio or maybe get on iTunes, and sometimes history can be forgotten," explains Jerrod, "A lot of people don't know that horns have been in country music since the 1920's, since Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys introduced them. So it's fun for us to incorporate those."
Jerrod's latest single 'Drink To That All Night' amps up the tempo and the fun. When it comes to performing Jerrod says it's all about comfort.
"Our shows, we like them to feel like it's a backyard party, so whatever we're comfortable in. Maybe tonight I'll wear a robe," he jokes.
Jerrod's new album comes out in the spring, the title is still under wraps.
