TUCSON - Mass shooting victims remembered the 2-year anniversary of January 8, 2011 by bringing the community together all weekend.
Pam Simon was one of 19 people shot that day. She needed surgery to remove a bullet.
"I just wake up every morning incredibly grateful," she said. "Life is beautiful. We must appreciate it and not sweat the little things."
An anonymous donor made sure admission to the Children's Museum was free.
The local non-profit group, Ben's Bells, gave museum visitors green bracelets. They were only supposed to take them off when they did something kind.
Jim Tucker was shot in the leg and chest on January 8.
"Still recovering," he said, "body doesn't recover quite as easily as it used to."
He is working on a board to make a permanent memorial for the shooting. They are still gathering input, researching other memorials and raising money.
"You can't put a time limit on it," Tucker said. "We want to do it, and we want to do it right."
Ron Baber was working for Congresswoman Gabby Giffords the day of the shooting. He was elected to replace her when she stepped down. He was shot that day and still wears a leg brace.
"I feel really strong," Barber said. "I have a great family behind me, and I've been given a job by the people of this community that I'm just so honored to have."
Barber emphasized the need for more mental health care and gun control. He said he is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment, but he wants to restore laws that restrict the number of cartridges in magazines.
"I think we need to go back to that," Barber said, "so that we can reduce the kind of tragedy or the magnitude of the tragedies that we've been seeing."
