TUCSON - Today on News 4 at 4, interior design expert Andrea Wachs expert stopped by with tons of great advice for spring and summer décor.
"I've styled 3 vignettes with items that are really hot this season....my inspiration comes from everywhere, our beautiful desert landscape, fashion and just being out and about town."
VIGNETTE #1: BOLD COLOR AND GRAPHIC PRINTS
Color is EVERYWHERE right now. I love the way it transforms a space and evokes a feeling of fun and excitement! It's fresh! There are so many ways to introduce it: For example, this great piece of art from Z Gallerie add s drama to any basic wall; this peacock blue table from Target -which is a great place to find fabulous accents at a great value- adds an unexpected pop of color. Even adding just a few colored glass candles gives you a great sense of Spring. Another easy way to breathe some life into your space? Florals.
VIGNETTE #2 GRAPHIC PRINTS
Graphic prints are really HOT right now. Visually, they add so much to a space. For example: this chevron throw from Z Gallerie has movement throughout the pattern, as does the lattice work in these gorgeous pillows from Homegoods and Z Gallerie. The geometry of this vase and table really help to ground the space. Look at how these easy florals tie it together. I always say "use what you have, and love what you use!"
Question: How do we make these all work together?
Answer: Keep it simple, by accessorizing with items from these vignettes. Take risks and have fun. You don't want to over-do it. If you think it's starting to look too busy, it probably is! EDIT! Keep large items (like your sofa) neutral and add drama, texture and pattern accordingly.
VIGNETTE #3: TEXTURE AND PATTERN (DESERT DRAMA)
I love to mix different elements into a space to create luxe texture. As you can see, I've mixed natural woods with interesting shapes- like this rustic sphere- with this Indonesian metal drum table. The Ikat pattern is super popular right now and I've added colorful versions of the print using this gorgeous chair from HomeGoods and pillow from ZGallerie. I LOVE animal prints, (especially leopard) and the richness it brings to a space. This would be great for pillows or recovering an ottoman. Isn't this gorgeous? It's important to add color to tie it all together. I've done that through potted succulents and flowers. How easy was that?
Question: How often are you changing your décor?
Answer: I try and update/refresh as the seasons change- honestly, I do! Even if it's just purchasing a fabulous new candle or throw. It's really how I stay connected to what's current both to me and for my clients. . My taste is always changing. I like to introduce new colors, rich textures and new pieces to my surroundings whenever I can. Sometimes it's a new area rug, sometimes a new wall covering. But I do it and I it always makes me feel like I have really freshened up my own space.
