PIMA COUNTY - A warning to park visitors: safety improvement work could delay use of park, starting Monday, March 24.
Pima County is working to establish an on-street signed connection from The Loop to Saguaro National Park's Rincon District, using a combination of neighborhood streets and roadways with bike lanes.
According to a Saguaro National Park, visitors may experience a 15-minute traffic delay at the beginning of the Cactus Forest Loop Drive, starting March 24. The road could also be closed from 5 a.m. until 8 a.m. to complete the work, though it is unknown which days visitors should expect the closure. All visitors, including early morning walkers, joggers, and bicyclists, should be prepared for the loop road to be closed until 8 a.m.
The construction project will consist of widening and hardening the road shoulder at the bottom of the first major hill, as well as smoothing out the transition from that curve into the wash crossing. This work is scheduled to continue for two weeks.
Pima County has been developing The Loop around metro Tucson with links to Marana, Oro Valley, and South Tucson for residents and visitors on foot, bikes, skates, and horses. When completed, The Loop will total 131 miles and connect the Rillito, Santa Cruz, and Pantano River Parks with the Julian Wash and Harrison Greenways.
