SEDONA (AP) - Someone has taken it upon themselves to build a half-mile of new hiking trail outside Sedona and the U.S. Forest Service isn't happy about it.
Coconino National Forest officials say whoever built the illegal trail on a steep slope west of Juniper Lake caused severe erosion and damage to an archaeological site.
The Forest Service says a concerned resident called them after finding tree cutting tools and other equipment hidden along the trail.
The agency said Tuesday it wants anyone with information on the illegal trail-building to call the Red Rock Ranger District.
