Tucson, AZ - Earlier this morning it was revealed that the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agency was planning a massive raid on multiple shuttle companies in Tucson and Phoenix accused of human smuggling. Around 2:40pm they released documents which detail the full extent of the operation.
The operation dubbed "In Plain Sight" by ICE is targeting a total of 47 individuals statewide, including 32 defendants with possible connections to Tucson, Arizona. According to ICE, the search locations in Tucson included the following four shuttle services - Saguaro Roadrunner Shuttles, America's Shuttles, Sonoran Shuttles and Nogales Express Shuttles.
According to the indictment, the shuttle companies are accused of ferrying illegal aliens from locations near the border to safe houses in Tucson and Phoenix. The indictment states that the shuttle companies took "hundreds to thousands of dollars per person" to transport them.
"The individuals who would be transported would be given pre-printed shuttle receipts denoting that they paid only a fare of $30.00 for transportation to Phoenix in an attempt to make the shuttle trip appear as the legitimate transportation of individuals," states the indictment.
Once in Tucson the indictment states that there were 10 different "stash houses" where immigrants were moved to, or concealed within.
The smuggling ring spanning Tucson and Phoenix is accused of transporting up to 2,000 illegal aliens.
ICE also claims that statewide the operation has seized $10 million in property, including assault rifles and more than 40 vehicles.
