Hundreds benefit from Kristi's Kids car seat giveaway

TUCSON - Hundreds of people are signed-up for a car seat safety class this weekend. After completing the 90-minute class, they'll receive a FREE convertible or high-back booster seat for their child.

Kristi's Kids teamed-up with Tucson Medical Center and the Tucson Police Department for Tuesday's giveaway. Login provided the phone line, which tracked more than 8,000 calls (attempted and completed.)

Everyone who registered for this Saturday's car seat safety class will need to report to the West side police substation (1310 W. Miracle Mile) at their designated class time. Classes run June 7th, between 8:00 am and noon.

If you have a used car seat that you'd like to donate, Tucson Medical Center will take it from you for recycling. Please, just bring it with you to the class.

If you were unable to get through, you can still call the Geico Ride Safe Kids line at (520) 546-7340.

At Tuesday's car seat giveaway, TPD Officer Ricardo Fernandez told Kristi's Kids, four out of every ten people don't even use a car seat for their children. Instead, they place kids on their lap or just reach an arm across the child's chest.

In Arizona, every year, we lose approximately thirty children due to improper restraint in a car crash.
