Humane Society helping with animal crisis

TUCSON - The Humane Society of Southern Arizona has set up emergency accommodations at its Companions for Life Center, 3465 E. Kleindale, in order to accept dogs and cats in need of shelter. Anyone bringing an animal to the HSSA will be required to pay the regular animal care fee. The HSSA's temporary intake center will be open during regular business hours, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

This is being done to help relieve the large amount of animals turned in to Pima Animal Care Center.

The HSSA is not animal control, however, and cannot accept any aggressive animals. Pima Animal Care is still responsible for public safety and will be operating in that capacity.

Anyone with a problem with an aggressive animal, you must call PACC at 243-5900.

Once this crisis is over, the HSSA and PACC will continue working together to ensure the best possible outcome for all the animals in our care.

If you are thinking of adopting a pet, now is the time! The HSSA is waiving adoption fees on all its animals Thursday.
