TUCSON - Service technicians at Cummings Plumbing Heating and Cooling are working in overdrive this week with homeowners wanting to service their furnaces in anticipation of this weekend's chilly temperatures.

Alan Puscus says maintenance saves money in the long run, " to spend the money now is well worth it. You know if a fire results from a unit not being looked at you know it's a bigger price to pay."

On Friday, Puscus serviced the outdoor furnace of Barry Hughgart. Puscus found rodents living in the furnace, "if that stuff ignites there's no stopping it. It's actually very dangerous."

Hughgart was not surprised, "the poor things need a place to sleep so it's fine with me," he said.

The filter was also dirty, Puscus recommends changing them every 30 days, "we're stocking up on a bunch of filters, that's another thing that we look out for is dirty filters because that could cause a system to overheat if it doesn't have enough airflow going through it because of a dirty filter that will cause a system to overheat."

Cummings Plumbing Heating and Cooling is currently offering a ten-point service inspection for $45, money, Puscus says, is well-spent, "my point of view is that you if you have heating and cooling system it should operate the way you want it to work. A lot of people will turn it down slightly to avoid using it so much but again my point of view is that if you have a system that is designed to work under certain conditions it should work properly and you should have it checked out."
