Home fire starts with blow torch being used on weeds

TUCSON - Tucson Firefighters put out a fire at a home Wednesday evening that was sparked by a blow torch being used on weeds outside. At some point the flames from the blow torch set the home on fire.

Captain Barrett Baker says they were called to the home in the 7700 block of South Delia Stone Court, near Benson Highway and Wilmot, just before 6:30 p.m. When firefighters arrived they found two men trying to put the fire out with hoses. Firefighters ordered the men to evacuate and quickly took over.

The fire was called under control about 15 minutes later.

Eight units and twenty-one firefighters responded to the scene and none were hurt during firefighting operations. Red Cross was not needed at the scene as the displaced residents were going to be able to stay with relatives. The displaced included a 25-year old male, a 22 year-old female, and their two year-old son.
