TUCSON - There's no elevation gain and the sight lines aren't the most dramatic.
"I get a chance to look at all the shops to see what's here", said Jessie Pratt.
What may be a mall to you is an indoor hiking trail for others. Welcome to the Foothills Mall: a safe haven from the brutal Summer sun.
"We used to go outside and walk and switched to inside because it was just available to us and more comfortable", said mall walker Jeff Layton.
No critters will be found here, with the exception being mall rats. Pratt said, "I haven't seen too much wildlife. We usually just drive right up and come on it".
While the Foothills Mall may lack in hiking ambiance, it makes up for in mileage. The mall walkers say they can get at least 3 miles in on any given morning.
All the exercise you need, without the dangers of triple digit heat or Monsoon storms.
Doors open at 5:30 AM for the Foothills Mall, with a monthly mall walkers meeting the first Wednesday of each month. It is free to join the mall walkers club, as you can sign up to log miles at the guest services counter during normal business hours.
