Hittin' the Trails 4 You: The Cat Mountain Trailhead

TUCSON - Little used, but established by Pima County, the Cat Mountain Trailhead sits on the southwest side of the Tucson Mountains.

The trail goes between two rugged peaks, with Cat Mountain to the right as you approach the trailhead.

Towering over the trail are several saguaro with lots of desert flora flanking the path. Keep an eye out for the beautiful cactus blooms, which should be peaking.

A half-mile in to your hike, hang a right to ascent up the mountain. The trek can be hard to find at times, but rock cairns are in place to help guide the way.

Hiking along the ridgeline gives you great views of the desert floor and all of the mountain ranges surrounding Tucson. The Cat Mountain Trailhead isn't the easiest though. Plan on a 4 mile round-trip hike that nets over a thousand feet in elevation gain.
