TUCSON - Tonight marks the first of three twilight hikes being hosted by both Saguaro National Park locations this month.

For hikers, it's a chance to get in a great hike without having to battle the grueling Arizona sunshine. "They are desert hikes, so they require sturdy shoes, lots of water, and a hat because it will still be sunny when we start", said Saguaro National Park's Philip Brown.

If you want to go, call ahead as reservations are needed. These twilight hikes are slated for Friday June 1st, 15th and 29th at Saguaro National Park East and West. To reserve a spot, contact Saguaro National Park West at 520-733-5158 or Saguaro National Park East at 520-733-5153.

Another night hike is happening Saturday in Marana. In honor of "National Trails Day", the town has scheduled a free 3 mile moonlight hike in the Tortolita Mountains. The hike starts at 7 PM tomorrow at the Wild Burro Trailhead near Dove Mountain. Hikers should bring a flashlight and water.

Another "National Hiking Day" event going on is atop Mount Lemmon. Saturday morning starting at 9 AM, the Coronado National Forest among others will be doing some trail maintenance work on the Upper and Lower Green Mountain Trails.

Volunteers will focus on eradication of social trails, minor trash removal, and light trimming of vegetation. Youth participants with Parks in Focus will document volunteer efforts and trail conditions "before and after" the work was completed. As of Thursday evening, the Forest Service has closed registration for this event.
