PARKER CANYON LAKE - Nestled in the Canelo Hills is the Lakeshore Trail along Parker Canyon Lake. It's a five mile hike with something for everyone.
Rebecca Hodgesn with the Coronado National Forest said, "The trail doesn't climb in elevation very high, so it's probably a good beginner trail".
Not long after starting on the sidewalk, the trail turns into dirt, flanked by tall grass and some trees. Fall colors are starting to pop up around the trail. Hodgesn said, "In the next couple weeks, you'll see more of a color change".
The lake not only draws in hikers, but boasts plenty of wildlife. At any point along the trail, you'll see several ducks enjoying the calm waters. Ducks aren't the only ones calling Parker Canyon Lake home. Other wildlife found includes white-tail deer, javelina and coatamundi.
Best of all: there is no fee to hike the Lakeshore Trail, as long as you park at the marina. You won't be disappointed.
