Hittin' the Trails 4 You: Jeff's 4 favorite hikes of 2012

TUCSON - For the final "Hittin' the Trails" of 2012, Meteorologist Jeff Beamish reviews his four favorite hikes from the past year.

Ventana Canyon in the Foothills of the Catalinas is a solid hike on many levels, ranging from great views to proximity and a good workout. Hikers say the trail is rocky at times, eventually leading to a place called "The Window". Most, however, do the 3.5 mile trek to the popular Maiden Pools.

Fall is one of the best times of the year for hiking. Mount Lemmon's Aspen Draw Trail is a perfect place to take in Autumn's beauty. The Aspen Draw Trail is a family-friendly hike, only 2.5 miles round trip. The trailhead resides near Ski Valley and is flanked in the Fall by radiant reds and shimmering yellows.

One of the hidden hiking jewels of southern Arizona resides in Redington Pass, home to the hike to Tanque Verde Falls. It's short in length, but long in beauty. While this oasis in the desert ranks high, nothing beats Mount Lemmon's Marshall Gulch.

Maybe its the sounds of a mountain stream, the glow of green or smell of the forest. Whatever it is, Marshall Gulch has it. Expect an easy hike with water and wildlife. The trail ends with a slight elevation gain & is wide enough to bring a friend or Fido.
