Hittin' the Trails 4 You: Bee safety when hiking

TUCSON - Do you know what to do if you're attacked by bees when hiking?

This morning on "Hittin' the Trails 4 You", Meteorologist Jeff Beamish got answers from the experts at Tucson Fire Department. Among their tips:

- Run away as quickly as possible. Africanized bees will follow you up to a quarter mile.

- Avoid wearing aftershave or perfume before hiking. Bees are sensitive to odor.

- If swarmed, make sure to cover your head and face. These are areas most vulnerable to bee stings.

- Do not jump in water. Africanized bees will wait for you to come up for air.
