Helicopter crashes in Phoenix neighborhood; 2 hurt

PHOENIX (AP) - A small helicopter crashed Wednesday between two homes, landing in a tree and knocking off part of a home's roof.

The fire department said two men were on board when the aircraft went down in a residential area. They were taken to a nearby hospital but appeared to be in stable condition.

There was no fire and no injuries on the ground.

A witness said that she thought a lawn mower engine had blown up at her neighbor's home, and then found the helicopter had crashed.

The copter crashed in an east Phoenix neighborhood about four miles north of Sky Harbor International Airport. All that could be seen from the street was a red tail boom sticking into the air.
