TUCSON - Tucsonans are keeping hardware stores busy as they prepare for the cold.
Naughton's had extra foam piping and tape near the store entrance as a reminder to customers.
"Stuff is going to break," Frank Naughton said. "Things will break. It's just the way it is."
Business is pretty good now, but Naughton says he expects panicked customers over the weekend after pipes burst.
"It's something that a do-it-yourselfer can do," Naughton said, "and very inexpensively."
People can just use a towel and duct tape to cover outside pipes, but for about $7 at a hardware store, the covering can last years.
Naughton emphasized the importance of carbon monoxide detectors, especially for gas furnaces more than 10 years old.
