TUCSON - The Sieh/Gaye family will cut the ribbon on Wednesday, June 29, at 5:30 p.m. when Habitat for Humanity celebrates the completion of the 341st home built in Tucson and surrounding Southern Arizona communities.
"You know I am a refugee, so it's great to be working with Habitat. Right now all I can say is thank you..." said Gabriel Sieh, a permanent refugee from Liberia and member of the Sieh/Gaye Family, getting the keys to their first home. "When God blesses you, you should turn around and help others on the same path."
The new home is located in Tucson within Habitat's Corazon Del Pueblo home development.
"We're so excited this day has come," said Michael McDonald, Habitat Executive Director. "It sums up months of hard work by our homeowners, volunteers, staff, sponsors and so many other members of our community.
Keller Williams Southern Arizona has helped make this family's dream come true. For each member of the Sieh/Gaye Family, this day has been a long time coming. Each adult has completed 200 hours of sweat equity by building on their home or working at HFHT's HabiStore. They have also completed homeowner education classes, saved down-payments, and signed the mortgage papers.
"By the time I'm 44, the house can be paid off and it can be for my children," Sieh added. "Every child looks for this opportunity from their parents. Habitat is there to help out, give the opportunity."
Habitat for Humanity Tucson partners with the community and low-income families to offer homeownership by providing a hand up, not a hand out. For more information, call (520) 326-1217 or visit www.habitattucson.org.
