PHOENIX (AP) - Six pelicans from the Gulf Coast will be released from quarantine and introduced into their new habitat at the Phoenix Zoo on Monday.

Zoo officials say the American White pelicans have been doing well and sticking close together in their enclosure since they arrived last month.

Zoo officials say they're anxious to welcome the birds to their new 3-acre wetlands habitat, where they'll have a lot more room and natural surroundings.

All of the birds have wing injuries that prevented them from flying away from oil slick in the Gulf and can't be released back into the wild.

They'll be sharing their new home with rescued Sandhill Cranes from Florida, the zoo's flock of Chilean Flamingos, and a few Red Brocket Deer native to Mexico.
