GREEN VALLEY - A mother and her adult son were attacked by bees in the 200 block of West Aliso Drive in Green Valley, Tuesday.
"I thought I was going to die," Perry Kleiner said. "I thought my mom was going to die."
Perry was supposed to get his biked fixed with his mother, Pauline, Tuesday. As the two were stopped at the intersection of West Aliso Drive and North La Canada Drive, a bee flew into their car window.
"I thought one bee, get him out," Pauline Kleiner said. "The window was open... even more came in." Pauline Kleiner said.
Pauline made a run for it and so did Perry; the two of them fighting, swating and scratching all the way home. Perry called 911 and Pauline found a stranger who helped them find some antihistamine. Though the Kleiners were not alergic, each were stung a number of times.
"They were buzzing all on my head," Pauline said.
"I was smashing them on me, I figured that would do it," Perry said.
Members of the Essential Pest team were also stung while trying to take down the hive. They say the hive had somewhere between 40 to 50 thousand bees and seeing a colony that big this early in the year, is unusual.
"They've probably been there for a year or two, undiscovered, high in the trees, a lot of peat moss surrounding it," Eric Ruden, Owner of Essential Pest Management, said.
The Kleiners say, they are glad to have survived.
"I didn't think I could run that fast and I wasn't very much out of breath either," Pauline said.
The Green Valley Fire Department says West Aliso Drive has been reopened. It was shut down for a few hours while crews get control of the bees.
