TUCSON - The second phase of the Grant Road Improvement Plan will runs from North Castro Avenue one mile east to North Fremont Avenue. Adding a new lane in each direction to ease congestion.
There will also be new and wider sidewalks, more signal controlled crosswalks, and improved bike lanes.
A median and access lanes will make it easier and safer to get in and out of businesses and homes along Grant.
But that won't help help 82 year old Phil. His home on Grant and Fremont has been in his family for more than 50 years.
Phil spent years building a private oasis in his backyard. Soon his home and his little piece of serenity will be demolished.
Phil's girlfriend, Karen Fouts, is frustrated because the Regional Transportation Authority isn't giving them very much information.
"The fact that we have to move is very disturbing in a lot of ways, in that we don't know exactly when, we don't know exactly how it's done. It's very hard for me to see a person that's lived here to just be upheaved and out of here. But it's going to happen and we'll deal with it when we can," Karen said.
Phil and Karen don't know exactly where they're going or how much money they'll be paid to give up their home. They hope to hear from the RTA sometime this week.
