TUCSON - Kristi's Kids and the News4 Lifesaver program are pooling resources with Rural Metro, Safe Kids and Pool Guard of Tucson to help keep your young ones safe this summer.
Kristina Grey, a grandmother of four, got her free pool fence, worth almost $2,000, installed.
The crew from Pool Guard started work early, hoping to beat the Tucson heat.
They're putting in 85 feet of fencing because Grey's young grandchildren come over a few times a week, during the summer.
"They spend the night. And this is great for them to be able to play in the grass right here. And I don't have to worry about them falling over there when they're over here," Grey says.
"You can see what a difference it is when the children are playing."
With several youngster's to watch, Grey can help one without worrying about the others darting off and possibly falling into the pool.
"The children have walked over to it and touched it and it seems very secure to me" she says.
Still, this grandma knows, supervision is key, "especially children this small, with in a few feet at all times," she says.
While swim lessons are critical, Matt Baronowski, the owner of Pool Guard, says barriers are a must.
"Kids this age that take classes get a false sense of security and get a lot braver and take more chances around water than they would normally," he says.
After the self-closing gate is installed, Baronowski gives Grey some instructions.
"Now when you want to secure the pool, you're just going to turn the key in the lock. And then this cannot be opened," he says.
