GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - The city of Glendale has agreed to drop its lawsuit against the Arizona Cardinals over advertising restrictions near University of Phoenix Stadium.
The City Council approved a settlement this month that calls for the city to pay the NFL team $213,187 for legal fees incurred during the three-year court battle.
Letters exchanged between City Manager Ed Beasley and Cardinals President Michael Bidwill show the city was open to settling last summer, but the city attorney says procedural delays held up the process.
Glendale sued the Cardinals in 2006 to remove ad restrictions on a half-mile section of 95th Avenue near the stadium. The Cardinals, for instance, would not have allowed Pepsi billboards outside the stadium because the team's sponsor is Coca-Cola.
