TUCSON - Former U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords will be in Tucson this weekend to attend a "Get Out the Vote Concert and Rally" for Ron Barber, her former staffer who is now running for her seat.
The concert event, being held Saturday, June 9 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Rialto Theater, will feature local favorites Calexico, Sergio Menonza y la Orkestra, Salvador Duran, and the Kevin Pakulis Band feauring Amy Langley.
Today is also Giffords' 42 birthday - a message on her Facebook page thanks her supporters for their birthday wishes, and states: "The best present would be seeing Ron Barber elected to Congress."
Information on the concert, and how you can sign up for a volunteer shift for his campaign is available here:
Democrat Rob Barber, Giffords' former District Director, is now running against Republican Jesse Kelly and Green Party candidate Charlie Manolakis in the Congressional District 8 Special Election.
On Saturday, Jesse Kelly will be at his campaign's final Super Saturday Walk Day, where he and volunteers will knock on doors and reach voters. Phone banks will also be running at three offices: the Pima County GOP Headquarters, the Jesse Kelly Campaign Headquarters, and the Green Valley GOP Headquarters.
