WASHINGTON - Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords testified before the Senate Judiciary committee Wednesday asking for some form of gun legislation.

Giffords, who sustained serious brain trauma after being shot in the head, read from a handwritten statement. "Violence is a big problem. Too many children are dying. Too many children. We must do something. It will be hard, but the time is now. You must act. Be bold, be courageous, Americans are counting on you. Thank you," she said.

Patricia Maisch, a woman who helped wrestle Tucson shooter Jared Loughner to the ground two years ago, said gun control is a must, "we're not taking your guns away from you. The government is not coming after your guns. Most of us respect second amendment rights but there are things that we can have common ground on."

She said there is no need for high capacity magazines. But Alex Talley, a salesman at Second Amendment Sports disagrees, "whether a gun holds a capacity of ten rounds or 30 rounds that person who wants to commit that act is not going to say no because, 'oh my gun only has ten rounds."

According to Talley, many people do not have a working knowledge of firearms and thus their calls for gun control may be misguided, "I really hope that it's more toward the people, not the gun," he said of any action proposed by lawmakers.

Meantime, Maisch, who went face-to-face with a gunman two years ago said the issue is much deeper, "unless you've been there you have only a small voice in the matter."
