TUCSON - Find out what those family heirlooms and antiques are worth at the Assistance League of Tucson annual fundraisers.
The fundraisers will benefit Operation School Bell® and other Assistance League philanthropic programs.
On February 17th, the annual WHATZ IT WORTH? event is an antiques appraisal fundraiser. Guests bring their family heirlooms and thrift shop treasures to be appraised by nationally known appraisers. Appraisers are: James Callahan, Linda Dyer, Rafael Eledge, Colleene Fesko, Ken Gloss, Virginia Salem, James Supp, David Weiss, Stuart Whitehurst and Sara Wishart.
A new opportunity is being presented on February 16th at 5:30 p.m. For this new event, the public can purchase tickets to dine with the appraisers from the WHATZ IT WORTH? Event; this dinner will be held at the Hacienda del Sol Guest Ranch. Sit next to your favorite appraiser and enjoy a fabulous meal and conversation with appraisers from around the country.
Last year over 550 items were appraised at the WHATZ IT WORTH? event. Assistance League of Tucson and the appraisers were not sure what they were going to see. Event Chairwoman, Kim Sparling said, "I was shocked and amazed when a Picasso came through the door worth $150,000! A unique one-of-a-kind Led Zeppelin t-shirt from a concert that never happened was appraised at $3,500 much to the amazement of the owner. Everyone has a special treasure in their house and they wonder, WHATZ IT WORTH?"
Assistance League of Tucson® is an all-volunteer organization comprised of over 400 members who donate more than 45,000 hours annually to their philanthropic programs serving our community annually. They do not have a paid staff and are a non-political, non-sectarian 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit corporation. 80% of what they raise goes back into the Tucson Community. Assistance League programs include Operation School Bell ®, Starting Over Supplies, and Assault Survivor Kits®. Auxiliary organizations include Assisteens® and Professional Association of Women's Services (P.A.W.S.).
Assisteens' main philanthropic program is Assisteens Helping Tucson Teens. The focus of the program is to strengthen middle school art, music and physical education programs through donations of new materials. P.A.W.S. provides volunteer opportunities to women in the workforce. This auxiliary, whose mission is to enrich the spirit of a child, focuses on helping children in crisis.
Assistance League of Tucson's main goal continues to be to assess the needs of the community and to provide relevant programs and services to meet those needs, enhancing the lives of men, women and children in the Tucson area.
