TUCSON - Ever wanted to know what that heirloom collecting dust in your closet is actually worth?

The Assistance League of Tucson is giving locals the opportunity to have their items appraised as part of a fundraising event being held on Sunday, February 12, 2012. Tickets to "WHATZ IT WORTH?" go on sale today, according to a news release from the organization;

Eight nationally-recognized appraisers will be on hand to give oral appraisals of items brought to the event. The appraisers specialize in metalwork, sculpture and silver wares, American Indian art and tribal art, Civil War & 19th century militaria, paintings and drawings, classic American furniture and folk art, collectibles, tools, scientific instruments and sports memorabilia, gold, silver and platinum jewelry, and Hollywood and Rock ‘n Roll memorabilia.

Event organizers stated that the appraisers are nationally known for their appearance on the antiques appraisal program appearing on public television.

"We decided Tucson was ready for a new type of fundraiser that would be fun and in keeping with the latest craze in valuing one's personal stuff," stated event chairperson Heidi August. "At the same time we recognized that we could be raising funds for the philanthropic programs of Assistance League of Tucson. Perhaps the best known of those programs is Operation School Bell, which provides new school clothes for nearly 4,000 of Tucson's disadvantaged students annually."

One $60 ticket will admit two people, and will allow up to two items to be appraised.
