Gas leak forces evacuations on east side

TUCSON - Three homes have been evacuated due to a gas line break on the east side.

It happened at approximately 11:15 a.m. on Sarnoff Drive and Bowline Road, which is located near 22nd Street and Sarnoff Drive, according to Tucson Fire Department spokesman Capt. Barrett Baker.

A construction company working in the area called 911 and reported that they had broken a 2-inch gas line, Baker said. Tucson Fire dispatched a Hazmat crew due to the size of the leak, Baker added.

Southwest Gas crews are currently working to stop the leak.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
