TUCSON - Former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is moving back to Tucson, according to a statement released by her husband, Capt. Mark Kelly.
Kelly released the statement via Twitter Sunday morning.
It reads, "Moving back to Tucson today. Gabby has been waiting for this day for a long time."
Giffords and Kelly have been living in Houston since early 2011 while Giffords recovered from her injuries sustained during a mass shooting in Tucson Jan. 8, 2011.
Giffords and 12 others were wounded and 6 people were killed when a gunman opened fire at Giffords' "Congress on your Corner" event at a local supermarket that day.
The shooter, Jared Lee Loughner, will be sentenced to life in prison later this year after pleading guilty to 19 charges in connection with the shooting earlier this week.
