PHOENIX (AP) - State officials say numerous school districts and charter schools across Arizona have been provided too much state funding since 2006 while many others received less than they were due.

Officials say the state plans to make $38 million of lump-sum payments in March to shortchanged schools and to subtract $6 million owed by schools over a 17-month period.

Deputy Associate Superintendent Lyle Friesen says he's fairly certain that every district and charter will either owe the state money or be owed money.

According to The Arizona Republic (http://bit.ly/10Yk9nF ), preliminary figures indicate that Mesa Unified School District is owed $3.3 million and that an undisclosed charter school was overpaid $324,000.

The error was discovered during a recent meeting of school business officials.
