"Frozen" has thawed out a new spot in box office history. This weekend, the Oscar-winning Disney film became the top-grossing animated film of all time with $1.072 billion in domestic and international sales.
The film has surpassed original record holder "Toy Story 3," which had earned $1.063 billion. It takes up a berth as the No. 10 biggest global blockbuster, and is also the first billion-dollar film from Disney Animation Studios.
"Frozen" now also ranks as No. 7 among all of Disney's films, according to The Hollywood Reporter, having surpassed the live-action "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," which earned $1.06 billion.
The movie, about a young princess named Elsa with the power to create ice and snow, stars the voices of Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell.
