SIERRA VISTA - Hundreds of people turned out Tuesday afternoon to pay tribute to K.C. Southard. The 18-year-old was killed Sunday morning when a fight broke out at the Garden Canyon Mobile Home Park in Sierra Vista.
Police say K.C. and David Kennedy were involved in a dispute over property and a girl. Southard was stabbed. A detective in the case said alcohol was involved and possibly marijuana. Friends say K.C. was trying to protect a girl. Jay Al-Obeivi, a friend of Southard said, "he was just the type of person that wouldn't stand for it. If there was something wrong he'd be the person to say, 'hey, this isn't the way it should go. We should so something better about this."
K.C.'s father Ian Bidgood said his son was going to graduate from the Center for Academic Success, a charter school, in December and had hopes of joining the Army. "He was smart, funny and intelligent," Bidgood said.
Kellie, K.C.'s mother said she can't believe her son is gone, "I want him home. I still believe he's going to walk up. That this is not all true."
Sierra Vista police arrested David Kennedy, he's been charged with second degree murder. The 30-year-old is being held in the Cochise County Jail on a $400,000 bond.
Friends have set up a memorial fund at any Wells Fargo bank in K.C. Southard's name, the account number is 3497937734. Also Texas Roadhouse in Sierra Vista will donate ten percent of its proceeds earned Monday night to Southard's family. Funeral services are pending.
