FORT HUACHUCA, Ariz. -- Child, Youth and School Services, the Family Morale, Welfare and Recreation Division along with the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars present Operation Junior Heroes from 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m., Nov. 14.
This event is a mock deployment for military-affiliated children ages 5 through 18. The event is designed to familiarize kids with the deployment process their parents go through.
Operation Junior Heroes starts with in-processing at the Ramada at the Thunder Mountain Activity Centre. Each child will enlist and receive his gear (a backpack and t-shirt). Next, they will be bussed to the field site with tents, a mess hall, postal services and other Army activities set up to simulate a deployment. Soldiers will be on-hand to explain the different functions.
After time at the field site, the children return to the Thunder Mountain Activity Centre for a homecoming ceremony.
Each participant must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and registration is required. Registration forms are available at the CYSS Outreach Services Office. For more information or to register, contact Angie Babcock at (520) 533-0710.
