TUCSON - A former Pima County Sheriff's deputy was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years probation today.
According to court documents Daniel Williams was more than three times the legal limit when he crashed his patrol vehicle near the Tohono O'Odham Nation in September.
Williams had been with the department 15 months and was still in a probationary period. He was assigned to the Ajo District. He was fired after the accident.
Investigators say at the time of the accident a case of beer was found in the backseat of the vehicle.
Last month Williams pled guilty to criminal damage and driving or actual physical control while under the extreme influence of liquor.
During today's sentencing, the judge sentenced Williams to two terms of probation, one five year and a three year, to be served concurrently, for the criminal damage and DUI charges. He was also ordered to pay the county $30,000 for the damage to his patrol vehicle, along with other fees.
After the sentencing, Williams was taken into custody to begin serving his 30 day sentence.
The judge also said Williams cannot poses firearms or alcohol during his probation.
