Former coach back in Pima County court after extradition from Mexico

TUCSON - The former wrestling coach who apparently fled to Mexico with an underage girl was in Superior Court in Tucson today after being extradited from Texas last week.

Todd Hezlitt, a former Altar Valley School District wrestling coach, was charged with Sexual Conduct with a Minor and arrested in April.

Today's court appearance was to re-enter Hezlitt into the court system after missing several court dates.

In May, authorities say he escaped to Mexico with then-15-year-old Brooke White, and failed to show up to his next court hearing. In July, the teenager contacted her family, saying she wanted to come home.

Shortly after, Hezlitt was arrested by authorities in Mexico, and was turned over to U.S. Marshals. He was extradited to a jail in Texas, then transferred to Pima County last week.

"We see that multiple agencies came together," said spokesman Tom Peine, "and it was a great cooperative effort that got Mr. Hezlitt into custody and back here to Pima County."
