TUCSON - Foothills Mall closed for more than an hour Saturday evening because of a bomb scare.
The Pima County Sheriff's Department responded around 6:15 p.m.
Mall security activated the fire alarm to evacuate the building. Then they made sure everybody left.
Kodi Lopez works at one of the stores in the mall.
"I'm actually kind of scared that they didn't come to us sooner," she said, "because we were just going to stay at work and there were still people in our store."
It was a busy Saturday night with even more shoppers than usual because of Holy Week. The mall usually has about 1,200 employees working.
Maria Batson was at Thunder Canyon Brewery.
"We were having date night," she said, "and after this we were going to a movie, just to enjoy our date night without kids or anything. It got ruined."
The Sheriff's Department bomb squad never had to respond.
"We never know how serious, how specific a threat is," Dep. Tom Peine said. "We obviously have to respond with all the resources that are available."
The Sheriff's department did not elaborate on what caused the scare.
