Feeding the hungry this Thanksgiving may be tough for the Giving Tree Outreach Program. According to a Giving Tree spokeswoman, the Community Food bank raided their pantry a few weeks ago and took back all of the food that the food bank donated to them, including 75 packaged hams.
The Community Food Bank said the Giving Tree didn't follow procedure and took items out of food boxes for their own use instead of distributing them the way they were required as part of the program. This left them no choice but to take their food donations back.
The Food Bank said it's not the first time it had accountability issues with the Giving Tree. News 4 obtained an email from the Community Food Bank CEO Bill Carnegie to board memebers that the working relationship with Giving Tree is over.
The Community Food Bank Statement said, "The Giving Tree is indefinitely suspended from all CFB programs. The Dissapearance last month of 75 two pound packages of sliced deli ham intended for TEFAP food box clients as well as multiple previous discrepancies and food safety issues has demonstrated the organization can provide no assurance that our products will be distributed as intended."
The Giving Tree Outreach Program said they will try their best to provide lunch and dinner on Thanksgiving Day.
