FLOWING WELLS - A new indoor sports complex in the works at Curtis Park has folks in the area excited for what it could potentially bring to the Flowing Wells community.
Adrian Galindo, a student who lives in the Flowing Wells area often goes to a nearby park with his friends to shoot hoops at the outdoor courts there. The idea of a new indoor sports complex in the neighborhood sound pretty good to him.
"I think that's a good idea because around here it's really hot...and over there theey might have A.C. and stuff...indoor gym...that'd be pretty nice," Galindo told News 4 Tucson.
The Southern Arizona Community Sports Center boasts some 40,000 square feet and space for five indoor basketball courts or eight volleyball courts.
Nic Clement, Flowing Wells schools Superintendent, said this complex is something the community really needs.
"This area has been under-served for quite a few years," Clement said. "Kids need an indoor place to play volleyball and basketball."
Clement said when the sports center is complete, it would add to the overall attractiveness of the neighborhood, luring families and business into the area.
"I think it's going to be an economic engine fo this area," Clement told News 4 Tucson.
As for Adrian Galindo, he said the complex could create more opportunities for keeping active while helping to keep kids like him out of trouble.
"It will probably keep people out of trouble...go over there [to] play ball or something instead of vandalism," Galindo said.
Groundbreaking for the indoor sports center is set for October 19.
