FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Flagstaff police say they're looking for whoever hanged a puppy from its own doghouse while the owner was away.

Police spokesman Sgt. James Jackson says the woman returned home after a visit to Sedona on Sunday and found the puppy hanging from a noose. She cut the animal down so her children wouldn't see it and called police.

Jackson says whoever killed the dog is only guilty of a misdemeanor but police are still doing everything they can to solve the case. They're asking anyone with information to call them.

Jackson says the woman told officers police had been at her home about two weeks earlier after someone complained about her dogs barking. An officer could not find any record of a prior incident.
