TUCSON - Another hat has been thrown into the ring for Congressional District 8 - the first female fighter pilot to fly in combat will announce her candidacy this afternoon.
Martha E. McSally will be competing with Jesse Kelly, Frank Antenori, and Dave Sitton in the Republican primary for the special election for the seat recently held by Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
McSally is originally from Rhode Island, and in 1995, became one of sevel active-duty Air Force officers selected for the Legislative Fellowship Program, serving as a national security advisor to Sen. Jon Kyl, according to a news release from her campaign. In 2002, McSally was nationally recognized for overturning a military policy requiring U.S. servicewomen to wear Muslim Abaya and headscarf off-base in Saudi Arabia.
The CD8 special election GOP primary will be held on April 17.
