First annual wine fest in Tucson on Dec. 14

TUCSON - The Arizona Wine Growers Association will present one of its Signature Series Events, "Wine in the Desert," in Tucson at St. Philip's Plaza on Saturday, December 14.

This is the first time that an Arizona Wine Growers Association event will be held in Tucson.

The event will highlight the industry's partnership with Yavapai College and the University of Arizona's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The objectives of the partnership are to:

• Develop the Southwest Wine Center to provide viticulture and enology academic programs;
• Establish a wine industry knowledge repository of best practices, historical data and industry research;
• Develop the University of Arizona Wine Library, advanced educational programs, and provide industry research/technical assistance support.

Together, Arizona Wine Growers Association, Yavapai College, and the University of Arizona are collaborating to strengthen and expand the emerging wine industry statewide. Festival participants will have an opportunity to support the collaboration by purchasing a UA/CALS Wine Library card or adopting vines planted at Yavapai College.

The festival is from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Advance tickets are available through midnight on December 12 at $20. Follow this link to learn more and purchase advance tickets today. Tickets will be $25 at the door.

Admission includes seven tasting tickets, a commemorative wine glass and live music. A silent auction, offering holiday gift baskets, will be presented. Wine can also be purchased by the glass, bottle or case.

Wine in the Desert will feature 15 Arizona wineries from Arizona's three established growing regions: Arizona Stronghold, AZ Hops and Vines, Callaghan Vineyards, Charron Vineyards, Flying Leap Vineyards, Freitas Vineyard, Gallifant Cellars, Golden Rule Vineyards, Pillsbury Wine Company, Kief-Joshua Vineyards, Lawrence Dunham Vineyards, Lightning Ridge Cellars, Page Springs Cellars, Saeculum Cellars, and Zarpara Vineyards.
