Firefighter missing In New Mexico forest found dead

JEMEZ PUEBLO, NM - A firefighter who was missing for a week in a rugged New Mexico forest was found dead Friday.

Authorities said Token Adams, 41, was killed in the crash of his ATV on a mesa after he set out to check on smoke report on Aug. 30.

Hundreds of volunteers, firefighters, search and rescue teams and the Civil Air Patrol spent the past week combing some 50 square miles of mesa tops and steep canyons east of Jemez Springs for the engine crew captain.

Despite the rugged terrain, searchers had remained hopeful of finding him alive because Adams, who grew up on the edge of the Sierra National Forest in California, was an experienced outdoorsman with extensive survival skills.
