Feds don't oppose Star's motion in Tucson shooting

TUCSON - Federal prosecutors said Wednesday that they don't oppose a Tucson newspaper's publisher request for the release of investigative materials in the 2011 mass shooting that wounded former Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

U.S. District Judge Larry Burns granted a motion last week from the company that publishes the Arizona Daily Star.

Star Publishing Company is seeking the dissolution of a protective order keeping the Pima County sheriff from releasing the material.

Burns is giving all parties involved until Friday to reply.

Last November, Jared Lee Loughner was sentenced to seven consecutive life sentences for the Jan. 8, 2011 shootings that killed six people and wounded 13 including Giffords at her meet-and-greet event outside a Tucson grocery store.

The protective order was to ensure Loughner's right to a fair trial.
