TUCSON - Odaine Sinclair enjoys video games. Thursday night at Kino Sports Complex, the FC Tucson forward made a play so rare it seemed like a video game.
In the 44th minute of FC Tucson's home match against BYU, Sinclair saw a teammate's header set up perfectly in his direction. In one swift motion, he jumped into the air and landed a perfectly placed bicycle kick in the back of the net.
"The ball was going away from me and I saw it up in the air and decided to go for it," said Sinclair. "It went in and I'm stoked right now."
The bicycle kick is arguably one of the most spectacular plays in all of sports. Sinclair's drew a standing ovation from the home crowd and instantly went viral. Social media networks like Twitter and Facebook began posting the video. ESPN even had the outstanding goal featured on its website and showcased it as the number one play on their signature "Top Ten" on Friday night.
News 4 Tucson spoke with Sinclair on Friday, where the forward admitted if his goal made ESPN it would be an exciting feeling to say the least.
"We'll go nuts," he said. "It's going to be crazy. We'll get mental.
"A lot of people say it's a once in a lifetime play. Hopefully the ball will pop up again and I'll go for it again."
Sinclair, who hails from Jamaica, scored the only goals in Thursday's match, a 2-0 FC Tucson victory. Teammates have joked that Sinclair will have to repeat the performance to bring further attention to the club.
Sinclair and FC Tucson are back at it Saturday at 7:30pm.
