TUCSON- What should have been good quality time for a father and daughter, turned into a nightmare. The accident took place in the 12100 block of South Old Nogales Highway, where a man and his daughter almost drowned in a water basin.
The 10-year-old girl was reportedly driving a golf cart with her father at a nursery, when the cart somehow slid into the water retention system.
The father immediately saved his daughter and then went back into the basin in attempt to get the golf cart out as well. Officials say they still do not know how the man ended up being submerged in the water.
"The little girl came over and asked 'Can I use your phone?', so I lent her my phone. She called 911. She was crying all the time and they said someone over there was in the pond in the water, " said Rito Gallego, a resident in the area.
The father was transported the University of Arizona Medical Center South in critical condition. However, his 10-year-old daughter is said to have no injuries.
"Initially they had pulled out the golf cart because it was reported that he was in there," said Mike Schwartz, assistant chief of Rural Metro Fire Department. "When they got it above the water level and recognized he wasn't. That's when they went into the water to find him and it was only a few minutes to actually find him."
