TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities are investigating whether a man killed in a shootout with state Department of Public Safety officers Monday morning was involved in two Phoenix-area homicides.
The unidentified man died after officers used tire-puncturing strips to stop his car on the U.S. 60 freeway in Tempe.
Buckeye police Lt. Jarod Griffith says the dead man was sought in the killing of a tow-truck driver in Buckeye on Sunday, and Tempe police Sgt. Mike Pooley says the vehicle in the freeway shooting matches the description of one sought in connection with the Buckeye shooting.
Meanwhile, Glendale police say they're investigating whether the man killed in the freeway shooting earlier Monday fatally shot a convenience-store employee. Pooley says the description of the Glendale shooter matches the man killed in the freeway shooting.
