Family forgives gunman sought in unsolved murder

TUCSON - Family members of a man shot, and killed in front of a VFW post over the weekend are hoping the public can track down the culprit.

Loved ones describe 39 year old Michael James as a family man. And on Friday, he was on a rare night out with friends.

A constant smile and contagious laugh is how LaQuenna Lewis describes the father of her two children. She's expecting baby number three.

"I can't express how difficult it is, I'm still waiting for him to come through the door," Lewis said.

Family friend Dionne Henriquez says, "He was just a good man, he was a great daddy, great daddy."

"And I just can't explain it to them yet, I don't know when I'll be able to," adds Lewis, wiping away tears. She hasn't had the words to tell the children their father isn't coming come.

As loved ones try to grasp what happened, detectives are piecing together the moments leading up to James' murder.

He was found early Saturday with a gunshot wound, out front of the VFW post 1208, located on Park Avenue near 36th Street. James died at the hospital. No suspects have been identified.

Instead of cursing the gunman and wishing revenge, Lewis already forgives whoever did it and wishes them peace of mind, by coming forward.

"To whom ever did it, on behalf of Michael, myself and God, we love you and we forgive you. And I would love to tell you that to your face," Lewis said.

If you have any information that could help police, call 911 or 88 crime.
