TUCSON - A lawsuit over a Surprise resident who was brain-damaged from a crash during El Tour de Tucson in 2008 is in the process of reaching a settlement.
The settlement, between Pima County and organizers of El Tour de Tucson, was for $3.5 million and was reached on Oct. 14, according to attorney Stephen Leshner, representing Gary Stuebe.
An elderly driver collided with 10 riders, including Stuebe, during the event on Nov. 22, 2008. Stuebe suffered a life-threatening brain injury; four others were also injured.
The next step is for the Probate Division in Maricopa County to approve the final settlement, Leshner said.
