Early morning shooting leaves 1 dead, 1 injured

UPDATE - 4:44 p.m. - Tucson police have identified the man shot and killed early Sunday morning in the 5800 block of East 23rd St.

Police say, 19-year-old Carlos Jose Birmingham was shot and killed.

A second person was shot and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police continue their investigation into the shooting.

Tucson police are investigating an early morning shooting, which left one person dead and a second with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say it happened just after 1 a.m. on Sunday in the 5800 block of East 23rd St.

Police say they received several reports of gunshots, and they have determined the incident stemmed from a large party, which led to gunfire.

Officers say when they arrived; they found one unidentified male shot in the street. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The second shooting victim was taken to a local area hospital.

Police are still looking to interview a number of potential witnesses who left the scene prior to police arriving.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
